VERY disappointing. A fairly standard plot that didn't do much. Absolutely no reason for the characters to do what they did. The most interesting character didn't even really exist. Not a very good effort. |

Exile's Return (Conclave of Shadows, Book 3) |
Raymond E. Feist |
2006 |
This book was supposed to be the third and final book of the Conclave of Shadows. Clearly Raymond came up with lots more ideas and wrote an entire book for background. There is virtually no conclave, nor characters of the other two books. Especially the character the first two books was about. So, it's a good book but I had to knock it down for blind-siding me. |

The Speed of Dark |

Not your typical fare. I am going to quote from comments in the book because I can't say it any better. "Thoughtful, poignant, beautiful, moving". In the slight future those with autism have been treated so that they are able to function in society and put their genius to work. However, they are not "normal". Written from the perspective of one with autism (and I can't imagine how tough that was, because you believe it) it traces his life. A "cure" for his condition becomes available and the story opens all kinds of ethical questions. The most important part however is to make yourself look at what "normal" means and how you judge and treat others. Everyone from fourth grade on, should read this book. |

The conclusion of Pandora's Star. More in two books than Jordan has done in fourteen - or whatever number he's on now- Interesting characters, great story and epic scope. Just a typical book from Peter. More! More! |

Shaman's Crossing (The Soldier Son Trilogy, Book 1) |
Robin Hobb |
2005 |
A new series from Robin. This is a typical first book for Robin, character development and setting up storyline. This book has actually been criticized by so-called fans. Umm...If you don't like this, you don't get Robin and are not a fan. |

FINALLY a book comes out, and then it's only half a book. Even thought this was not an attempt to make money it's still really annoying. Having to wait a year to find out what is going on with half the characters is stupid. The story was OK but dragged some. It should have all been one long book. |

Nice sequel to Illium, had a slight drag at one point but an interesting story. I wasn't too happy about the fate of Helen though. She deserved worse. |

OMG! An absolutely spectacular, original, unbelievable book. I had read 'King Rat' a while back and was not overly impressed so I just got around to reading this. What a loss. This book is amazing, from the evocative use of language, to the imagination of the story and world, this book is simply mind-boggling. While probably not for everyone, if you like literature and SF this is a must read. I now have to reshuffle my top 10 list. |
